Summary

My very young granddaughter had just learned to walk, when she discovered that she could lift the cover flap on the top rear of my Canon TS6420 inkjet printer. Of course, she bent it back too far, and it broke the plastic hinge pins off.

For a long time, I just left the broken flap resting on the opening, and that was fine. But one day I decided that it would be fun to try to design and print a replacement. This is the result. I was too lazy to order PLA in a matching color, or to paint the flap that I printed. So, I just printed it in black and left it that way. I may decide to paint it someday, but probably not. I have included one photo of the original flap next to the replacement.

I have a JG Aurora Magic-maker and an Ender 3, both of which have rather small build plates. At first, I printed the replacement cover flap in two pieces and glued them together. But, visually, it was obvious what I had done. Then I discovered that I could print it in one piece by angling it vertically at about 45 degrees. The supports that were included to allow printing of the hinge pins also helped to support the weight of the piece as a whole as it grew up at an angle on the plate. I have included both the 2-piece files and the 1-piece file. I used a raft to give it some better attachment to the build plate.
