All of the stands like this that I've seen require a central piece for the legs to connect to. This design eliminates that by interconnecting the legs to each other. The legs create an 8" diameter base for more stability. They could be redesigned to be longer if needed.
The hooks that clip to the bottom rim of the canister are very tight. It takes some force to snap in, and some work to pull them off. But they might wear down with use. I have only tested a larger 4.25" diameter canister and it fits just right. I have not tried a smaller 3.5" diameter so not absolutely certain the inner hooks are in the correct place.
