This is a device which is capable of accurately measuring crabs for their minimum legal size under the regulations of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which requires such a device to be carried while taking crabs.
The distance between the sides of the larger section is five and three quarter inches, which is the minimum size for Dungeness crabs (Cancer magister) in California.
The distance between the sides of the smaller section is four inches, which is the minimum size for all other crabs of the Cancer genus in California, including: yellow crabs, rock crabs, red crabs, and slender crabs.
Two attachment holes are provided: one supports a badge clip and the other supports a carabiner, key ring, etc.
