Summary

Print in Place Caged Ball Bearing

This is a design for a caged ball bearing that prints as one part. Each bearing ball has a shaft that connects to the bed which allows it to be printed in place. This shaft also keeps the balls from rotating, The cage allows for smother rotation of the balls. Give it a try it works surprising well!

There are three difference clearances; .000", .0025", .005". This is the clearance between the balls and the inner and outer race, per side. Since the balls and races are rounded the contact surfaces are small allowing a small amount of clearance. On my printer both the .0025" and .005" spin very freely right off the printer but were a little sloppy. The .000(zero) clearance version needed a to be broke in but the bearing was very tight.
