Changes from the original model by 3d_bubbles on Thingiverse:
- This 3-rail Picatinny mount for the Bug-A-Salt 3.0 was almost perfect as-is, but I wanted to ensure things stayed in place with an additional angled extrusion if there's something like a sling pulling on the rails while in use.
- The front area against the barrel end has a circular recess so there can be additional stuff added on if desired (like a barrel extension, silencer, etc.)
- This should fit the Bug-A-Salt 3.0 - I have the Fiber Optic version myself and didn't have issues. Not sure about other/earlier variants though!
This model is made to pressure-fit onto the muzzle just like the original.
Hardware I used:
- 2x 10mm M3 screws on the left and right side of the back area up against the barrel body.
Installation:
- Print the part, ideally with the flat-sided barrel end on the bed of your printer
- Slide the muzzle rail onto the front of the barrel
- Options to firmly secure this:
- Use 2x 10mm M3 screws and lightly tap these in through the left and right holes on the muzzle rail. Screw these onto both sides, all the way in if possible, but don't over-tighten and strip the plastic. I just wanted a bit of extra pressure against the original barrel.
- Simply use a bit of glue on the barrel somewhere inconspicuous, and slide the muzzle rail over it.
- Just slide the muzzle rail on; glue/screws aren't really necessary if you don't have anything pulling on it like a sling. You'd probably be fine with a light or a laser.
Printing:
- Like said above - I'd recommend printing this with the angled side facing up on your printer so you have to use the least supports.
- I did use supports on mine when I printed, which covered the barrel recess, the rails, and also the screw holes on the top. I'd say you could probably get away with only using supports on the Picatinny rails.
- I printed in Prusament Galaxy Black PETG
Muzzle Barrel Extension:
- Note that I printed a barrel extension myself, so your stock orange-tipped barrel is actually a little closer to the end of this muzzle rail system. I've included the Muzzle Barrel Extension model that I made to replace the orange one.
- This does require you to take the Bug-A-Salt apart, and is actually a bit difficult to pry the orange tip from in-between the body assembly.
- This model fits okay, but probably needs a bit of work to keep the barrel sides together once you squeeze this into the plastic. If I were doing this again I'd probably just make the barrel extension part of this muzzle rail system.
Files:
I've included .STL, .3MF, and the .STEP files in case modifications are desired. Happy printing!
General safety Disclaimer
Any parts of this project are for the Bug-A-Salt 3.0, while not a toy, is not a firearm. This is intended to add functionality to a product that fires table salt to kill insects. Please print this responsibly and understand the implications of modifying this tool which may more closely appear as a functional firearm. I'll only be using this indoors, so if using “in public” you might want to print this in more obvious colors, etc.
