Summary

This is a replica of the sliding and locking mechanism found on some models of box cutters, so you can print a new one if it happens to be broken. The one I made this for, was probably 1000 times cheaper than all the work I spent on modeling this, but I mainly did it to see how well this could work, and it does work extremely well. It certainly is better than the original part.

This is difficult to print because it is tiny and has nasty overhangs, so I provide the models with built-in supports that break away easily. Some cutting or sanding will probably still be required to make everything fit and work smoothly.

This needs to be very strong and springy. ABS and PETG are probably the best choices, PLA might be too brittle and too stiff to work well. A bit of silicone oil/grease on the parts can help to make them slide more smoothly.

I don't know how standard these cutters are, likely there will be variations in tolerances between different brands. You may need to scale the models by one or more percents in the X and/or Y directions to make it work smoothly for your particular cutter.
