Summary

This was originally designed as a knockoff "beepberry" (before beepberry was renamed to beepy) when I was waiting for the beepy to be released. It's a handheld computer with sharp memory display, raspberry pi zero, and chording keyboard using the artsey.io layout.

It requires some soldering to put together, but it's still a very simple computer to build. It runs for many hours on a single 3ah 18650 cell, can charge while it runs, has no voltage boosting (the pi zero runs at battery voltage), ...

Parts list:

Wiring Descriptions:

  • Display -> pi zero gpio pins
  • pi zero -> pimoroni pw switch shim -> lipo charger board -> lipo protection board -> 18650 cell
and wires from the pw switch shim to the external 6mm button to power on and off
and wires from the lipo charge board to the external usbc breakout for charging
  • keyboard switches -> pi pico gpio pins --usb--> pi zero
** the pico runs fine at battery voltage just like the pi zero
