Summary

This is a project I've started. I'm trying to build a small propeller I will tow behind the boat to spin a Nema17 stepper motor. I know, sounds crazy! I hope to produce just 1 amp of power at 12V. If you have experience in troubleshooting electronic circuits, please reach out!

The propeller should be filled with small fishing leads, otherwise it will skip on the surface. I also add sand + water, followed by gluing on the end cap. The finished prop weighs roughly 5lb or 2kg. I've made 2 shown in the photo. The smaller one I think will work better for sailing above 7 knots. The larger one should work better at 5 knots. Both are designed so they should deflect off any crab pot lines, etc. you might sail over. The cable is a vinyl coated laundry line. It works, but I'll use something thicker once I get the design worked out more.
