This is a bird bath that sits on the pole, next to the bird feeders.
I could not find a better place for a bird bath - on the deck it is muddied by raccoons and skunks, on the grass it damages the grass. So up the pole it went. Well, I tried a small glass flower one from Canadian Tire, it was on its own pole, some 3' high may be. Unfortunately the bowl cracked and I threw the pole along with the rest.
So this box-like thing is wrapping around the 1/2" pole stick.
It could be either held with zip-ties or the lock that clamps it to the pole.
From the bottom it better have some additional support - anything that'd prevent it from sliding down.
It fits 1/2 gallon of water, does not get splashed much.
It turned out to be a bit too deep for the birds actually dip into it. At least they come to drink from it.
UPD 20181008: birds ignore it, at least the finches, sparrows and similarly small birds I meant it for. Larger ones, like the blue jays and crows, and those damned mourning dowes use it for a day or two while the water is fresh. After that the water turns green and the birds shit into it, that's all, no fun at all.
I removed it, hope to use it next year. May be.
