  1. Modifying a 28BYJ-48 (12V or 5V) stepper motor from unipolar to bipolar tutorial:

  2. The diagrams show the supply voltage of the NEMA-17 stepper motor 12 volts (this is the minimum voltage). The recommended voltage is 24 ... 35 volts (respectively, the capacitor should be 35 ... 50 volts).
