Summary

First and foremost - This design is untested!!!

I will be moving from an apartment to a house soon, and i wanted to make sure i had a decent way to store my families bicycles in the new garage.

The basic design is loosely based off an item you can purchase (but ill be damned if I'm gonna spend $60 x 3 to be able to store all three bikes)

You will need:

  • 5 bolts that will fit 8mm holes, as well as nuts (i recommend nyloc nuts)
  • 5 608 type bearings (i figure some of you still have a few lying around from the fidget spinner craze)
  • 15 or so wood or deck screws
  • Paracord or any easily available rope less than 1/4 inch thick
  • (optional) any kind of heavier duty garage hooks or rope anchor

Space the forward pulley housing and the rear housing about as far apart as your bikes handlebars and back edge of the seat.
secure into reliable anchor point with wood screws (ceiling studs)
anchor the rope about 6 inches in front of the forward pulley run the cord down to the forward hook pulley, then back up to the forward pulley housing. From there, run straight back to the first pulley of the rear housing. run the cable down to the rear hook pulley, and then back up and through the second rear housing pulley. Make sure you have enough rope to be able to lower everything down to a comfortable height to retrieve the bike.

As i previously states, this design is untested, so please PLEASE do not keep anything valuable under the bike unless you feel comfortable in the design and that the design will hold the weight of a bike.
