Summary

Contents

This set contains 26 tiles for the Betrayal at House on the Hill Legacy board game. It is not a replacement for the physical game, only a decorative set of 3d tiles that I hope will make the game more immersive and enjoyable. The rooms in this set were made in a slightly different scale than hearthspark's, I have reduced their height by 25%. This will not only save on print time, but will also make them easier to be used in an actual game.

Speaking of functionality, these can almost fully replace the cardboard tiles. You should still keep that deck for drawing random rooms but as soon as you do that you do not need them anymore. I have also made sure there is always enough space for at least one character to stand fully on the floor. If there are more characters in one room there
should be enough space, but you might have to put one for example on the table.

In the board game sometimes you have to glue stickers to the tiles. One of those sticker types, the ghosts, is included in this set. Since they will rarely appear in the first few games anyway, I will release the other "stickers" later, with part 2. I plan on creating 3d models for all other tokens as well, but that will come later.

What is in the files

The files include both the full models of the tiles as well as some alternate versions (containing "Alt" in their name). They are almost the same, but have been cut into several pieces to reduce the need for supports, which should make the prints have better quality. I know it increases the download size, but I believe ease of print for such a big project
is very important.

Aside from rooms themselves you can find Icons and Ghosts. These are labels that can be printed and glued to the rooms to make the game fully playable without having to reference the original tiles. This includes room names, room symbols, special rules for the tile and a place to glue ghost tokens. The ICONS and GHOSTS files contain just enough of those tokens for their designated plank i.e. set of rooms as unlocked in the Board Game.

There are also some additional tokes. The Ghost Tokens should be used as the stickers, just print a few beforehand and when needed glue them to their corresponding place. The Small and Large Obstacles can be printed and used as a substitute for the cardboard tokens. One Small Obstacle should be glued permanently to the Cramped Passageway tile to represent that tile's permanent obstacle.

Both the tokens and the icons are optional, if the players are experienced with the game they might not need to reference them. Still, personally I prefer to use this set with them.

Assembly

In order to assemble individual rooms from their alternate versions refer to the original file for reference.

To make a magnetized base print the Base file, insert four 3x6mm magnets (making sure they are the right orientation) into the holes and then the Caps to lock them in place. Then just glue the room to the base. You can glue the icons wherever you want on the tile, but you can refer to the pictures on this page for inspiration.

Painting

I highly recommend painting these tiles. That's what makes them really stand out. I put a bit more effort in the set shown in the pictures, but they will look great even with a quick speed paint.

For the hay just use some bristles cut from an old brush.

For the outside region you really should use some static grass. I used an Autumn style static grass with some dried birch seeds and glued them to the tiles with a PVA glue. I also used the desert texture paint for the paths in that region. It looks great and kinda captures the Autumn style present in the original tiles. Still, go for whatever you like - if I did it again and wanted to be creative I would maybe go for a winter aesthetic with some snow heaps and icicles on the trees... But it's your set, do whatever you like :)

Credits

This project was made completely by me, ramzes222, however it did use a few assets made by other people. Every single asset not made by me used in this project is included in either the credits of this project or the project this is a remix of.

This project was inspired and is a remix of the Betrayal at House on the Hill Tiles (magnetic) project by hearthspark.

It is included in the credits, but I will link it here too:

I have to admit this was my first experience with 3d modeling, that's why I have used quite a few existing assets, especially in my first tiles. As I gained more experience I gradually stopped doing that and in the next parts I hope to not use outside assets at all.
