Summary

These are the files used for Blue Dream, a Plastic Antweight combat robot. This robot has performed fairly successfully, and is very easy to assemble and maintain.

Parts required to build:

  • 1 Frame
  • 1 Top Plate
  • 2 Motor Mounts (Pick the one that fits your motors. The 16mm should fit the Fingertech 'Spark' motors as well as the Repeat Robotics 16mm motors. The 22mm should fit most 22mm gearmotors, but for sure fit the Just 'Cuz Robotics 'Gecko' motors)
  • 1 Bolt
  • 1 Nut
  • 1 Wedge or 7 Forks, depending on the configuration you would like to use - Mix and match for extra effectiveness!

Non-Printed Parts:

  • 1 Transmitter/Receiver
  • 2 Drive Motors (I recommend either the Repeat Robotics 16mm motors or the Just 'Cuz Robotics 22mm motors)
  • 2 Speed Controllers (or one dual-ESC)
  • 1 Battery (The battery compartment fits the Galaxy 3S 300mah pack fairly snugly)
  • 1 Power Switch (The frame is designed to fit the Fingertech 3.5mm Switch / Charge Jack that comes with the Viper kit)
  • A way to wire everything together - I use the Fingertech Mini Terminal Blocks
  • 2 Wheel Hubs (I use the Fingertech Twist Hubs, make sure you get the right size for your motors!)
  • 2 Wheels: 1.75 inch diameter (Foam wheels are usually good - make sure they match the width of your hubs!)
  • Tape to hold the battery in place, it can also help with holding the receiver down.

  • Screws:

  • 4 M3x5mm screws for the Top Plate (I start a tap on the holes and then let the screws finish it and they seem to hold pretty well)
  • 4 M3x5mm screws for the Motor Mounts (same deal as above)
  • However many M2x5mm screws as your motors need (you can use shorter screws but anything longer will stick out of the motor mounts quite a bit or go too far into the gearbox)

Spares:

I tend to bring at least two Frames to every event, as well as at least two Wedges.
Three Top Plates is usually plenty, and you can double them up if you need some extra armoring.
The Bolts tend to break fairly often, especially against high-energy vertical spinners, so bring as many of those as you can (4+ is usually what I aim for).
The Nuts can also sometimes break if they take a direct hit, but they can also get lost in the debris, so it's a good idea to have a half dozen or so of them on hand.
The Forks also can break when hit by strong spinners, so it's usually a good idea to have a couple of extra sets. I usually try to have a dozen Short Forks, a half dozen Long Forks, and four Push Forks. The Push Forks don't usually get damaged, so you don't need as many spares.
I've never had the Motor Mounts take any damage, but it's still probably a good idea to have a spare set on hand just in case.
