Summary

I really liked the original design in its simplicity with a realistic looking propeller that worked. I wanted to adapt this simple design to a quick demonstration for my son of basic R/C functionality, without building a complex R/C boat body, this model did the trick, although turning is still manual, it works.

Changes:

  • I had to shorten the "rubber band" guide to get the DC motor to fit with the top of boat on.
  • Raised the edge of the boat walls by 2mm.
  • Extended the propeller shaft the entire length of the rubber band guide to engage the DC motor (print with 100% infill to make it stronger around motor shaft).
  • I designed a snap fit housing for a brushed DC motor I had laying around.
  • I added the STEP files for adjustment to slightly different DC motors and printer tolerances, my Bambu labs printer had a -.22mm dimensional accuracy variance that I accounted for in the motor model (i.e. diameters are .22mm larger than motor spec).

Hope someone finds this useful, this is my first post/contribution!
