BarYak makes an adapter that zip-ties to your frame/fork, which provides 4 threaded M5 x 0.8 holes for mounting bottle cages, & in line with the bikepacking trend nowadays, cargo cages like the Salsa Anything Cage & others.
The BarYak Mule is $60/pair though, & we can do better than that: http://www.baryak.com/new-products/baryak-mule-double-mule-with-install-kit
Picture above is from their website.
Hardware:
There are two versions in the files: a machined version, & a printed version. You cannot use the machined version via 3D printing; the threads would be problematic (too thin, etc.). To address this issue, the 3D printed version is twice as thick to allow for locknuts (8 mm width, 5 mm deep) to be sunk into the piece.
Holes are 64 mm apart; this is the bottle cage mounting standard. See dimensions here: https://salsacycles.com/files/tech/12496_SAL_AnythingCage_HD_INST.pdf
For installation, check out BarYak's website as linked above.
I'm likely never going to test this since my frame/fork is already drilled for these bosses, but I need feedback in order to fix problems as they arise.
I already anticipate the fit of the locknuts being a potential issue (scaled width/height by 115% as a starting point).
