Summary

Creates a rounded half-sphere with mounting holes
that can be screwed to a board to create a balance board.

There were other similar models on Thingiverse when I made this, most notably Ankle Board, but I didn't like having the screw in the top, since this is the primary balance surface.

I also wanted to be able to scrunch the rounded shape, since some highly regarded brands count their flatter dome shape as a market advantage, and it supposedly makes a pleasant experience.

With this, you can customize all your screw dimensions, the screw count, the total size, and the height of the dome. I recommend planning out your board first, so you can print a dome to fit your needs!

Also supports wood screws with tapered heads, and allows them to neatly sit in the mount plate!

I've provided 3 different models, both with and without support trees that I generated in MeshMixer. The print times were as follows:

  • 4cm: 40min print time.
  • 8cm: 3hr print time.
  • 15cm: 11hr print time.

Some easy instructions:

  • Print the 15cm "with support" model. You do not need to add support to your slicer, the model contains minimal support "trees" that should work fine.
  • (5) Everbilt Flat Head Phillips Wood Screws #8 x 3/4in, as pictured.
  • (1) 1x12" pine board, cut to a shape you enjoy standing on.
