Welcome back,
This is a radical take on the Nova to Omega program, brought back. If you’re familiar with the back and forth of military aircraft design history; you’ll see alternative designs offered from suppliers bidding to win the contract that didn’t make it into production. This is common; the procedure is the government issues competitive funding to research and develop among specified companies to offer up alternative designs all bidding to win a contract for hitting the best quantity of set parameters. The best design to hit all the defined qualities wins.
So welcome to the Omega Destroyer design that was not chosen for the Omega 1 and 2 class Destroyers. Keep in mind though, this is an alternative story line redesign. So here, we can change things. The Omega & Delta Vessels, both being headed up by competitors in the private sector were very close to the Nova Starframe design. The winner of the Design Bid would present an upgraded platform with artificial gravity and upgraded weapon systems.
The Omega’s won as the existing Starframe could more rapidly be upgraded. The Delta lost the bid due to it being polar opposite and not as cost beneficial, The Delta however had some radically different advantages and disadvantages than the Omega’s advantages and disadvantages. With that all said and done, we can now dive into the just how much the parameters of the project the Delta Platform differed.
The Delta concept only held onto the must haves, and ignored everything else almost completely. Believing that the new Vessel at that time would need to be more technologically advanced and lesser of a target in size; Team Delta choose this approach.
Now you get to make the decision.
The Delta offers the same rotational square footage as the Omega does, however the vessel is longer as the design element was to bypass having a much larger target to hit. So, subsequently the rotational sections, (2) are smaller and longer. The Starframe is first seen quickly as less rigid and possibly not strong enough for defensible position. The Delta Designers believed this would allow for more offensive weapons hardpoints and, mission specific switchable weapons pay loads. Meaning it can hold onto more firepower to counter balance the Omega design issue. The weapons hard points are doubled in the Midships to subvert the higher threat level with more interceptor fire with multipurpose guns. Theres more interceptor guns place around the fusion reactor as well with the idea being, it’s there, if you can hit it. The Engines were not outlined in the parameters spreadsheet, so they are also completely redesigned. The Escape Pods are pushed more fore and aft as possible to maximize the Midships weaponry hardpoints. The idea here again is to check all the boxes, but beat the competition better. The Delta also offered modulating power level frequency in shots fired to break thru then theoretical adaptive bio armor, thru a Midships intricate clutch and bearing system to act as a generator and capacitor to pull it off. This feature the Delta had is derived from the option of changing modes from single rotational engaged direction to oppositional rotational direction. This meaning that both cylindrical sections could spin clockwise and counter clockwise to sustain a more optimized momentum during travel thru space as well. The design also has thrusters for back ups, if stabilizers were hit to prevent a zero g interruption where the Omega does not.
The length to the Delta Team meant that there was greater opportunity for more offensive action and a safer, more protected crewed area to the crew of the ship. Sadly at the time of the choosing, the Delta in its battle tested form was not chosen as so many issues till then unforeseen presented themselves. One of them being retooling, not only for the Ships construction, but a total new approach to docking and training as well. These believe it or not are some of the common reasons why some of the most radical and unsung designs never make it to the builders yard.
So, at this time, 2260, the Delta’s are brought back to the table. The Shadow War is going to kick off and despite Earths intention to not get involved, the Babylon Project is beginning to drag Earth in. The Delta is more of a Dreadnought than a Destroyer, or better yet a Fast Battleship if you will.
I’ve put together 4 models. Firstly:
The Delta 1 Platform: This was the barebones ship before being outfitted with the new to then Omega weapons system. (I admit, the model does have more modern gunnery even by my own alternative chronology as its being brought back in a very careful and steadfast way) This model gives you the chance to place your own configurations on the Ship. :)
Super Battleship: This model represents the ready for battle testing fully armed Vessel in time, and in its new brought back original intent.
Omega III: This model shows the adapted and adopted version of the Battleship into the Earth Force Fleet.
Prodomos Class Skirmish Scout: This model represents the vessels capability to change configurations and help form task forces of the same parent design to form reconnaissance and Omega level attack and defense strike capability. The Prodomos Class also bolsters 4 separated Sensor scanning and transmission towers. Yes, it’s armed with the ability to find you, scramble your transmissions and mislead you. So a commandeer version may show up ;).
So there we have it, the Destroyer competitor that didn’t make the cut, was remembered, embraced, further developed, shares the name of the Design that beat it, and develops its own class name while creating task forces.
This will become a very important feature of the storyline, as the Delta’s can be optimized to handle combat operations with other races advantages, and disadvantages. Sometimes, designs come at the wrong time and aren’t recognized for being too far ahead of it time.
Also, lets pay our respects to the designs that were to big to make it through, and merit the underdogs of those design competition’s. I sure as hell know the feeling, as you’ve probably already assumed while reading this lol.
Remember, our best dreams are our day dreams, and that the fantastic in those dreams are the best dreams worth fighting for.
OH shit… ya, COOL CAVIOT TIME! According to google, Prodomos is “ In ancient Greece, the prodromoi (singular: prodromos) were skirmisher light cavalry. Their name (ancient Greek: πρόδρομοι, prοdromoi, lit. "pre-cursors," "runners-before," or "runners-ahead") implies that these cavalry 'moved before the rest of the army' and were therefore intended for scouting and screening missions.” Yepp, almost forgot to hit that checkbox. ;) Those awesome Greek Mythology names go a long way Im telling ya!
Enjoy!

So ya, Im sitting here with a completed Prodomos Class, and its just like whoa!
NEW!: Autolycus Class Commandeer Carrier has been uploaded. Similar with the Commandeer Vessel I added previously. The big change is the use of a top mounted flight deck for Marine Storming Vessels and their needs. Also the weapons array has been changed Midships to accomodate the Gatling style defense and disable strategy, not to destroy an enemy vessel, but enough to disable it for capture.
