Summary

From Wikipedia: “A fire ship or fireship is a large wooden vessel set on fire to be used against enemy ships during a ramming attack or similar maneuver. Fireships were used to great effect against wooden ships throughout naval military history up until the advent of metal-hulled ships; they could also serve a considerable function in shock and awe strategies to harm the morale of enemy crews.[1] Ships used for fireship tactics were sometimes surplus, obsolete or purpose-build vessels filled with gunpowder or other combustibles, but could also be improvised from active warships purposefully set on fire during engagements, such as if a vessel expended its munitions or had some other reason to be abandoned in battle.“

“Hellburners”,also called "explosion ships", were a variation on the fire ship, intended to cause damage by blowing up in proximity to enemy ships.”

So here we have it. A desperate mission low on supplies behind enemy lines. 1 nuke left and 1 white flag in “interlack” offering to surrender. A single pilot takes a makeshift C.T.C to help with thruster control for a final run. Using a transponder and transmitter from a ship going dark, the Star Fury Pilot would set the fuse, and take her on a semi automated course toward the enemy base, sending signals of unconditional surrender. Having to transfer controls over to an automated system and leaving in a Star Fury like hell to avoid capture, while the enemy closes in on the crippled ship to focus’s on what’s left. Oblivious to Starfury flying out of the wreck to look like debris with the computer voices the countdown in the before the blast. Waiting for a Janus Light Ship to jump out of Hyperspace to rescue the Pilot, and photograph the wreckage for civilian moral. I think there’s plenty of story line here. When the chips are down, the rule book goes down with it.

So again, out of the history books, and doing what sci-fi shows haven’t, I thought of adding this heroic last stand, I chose an escort Frigate for the job. The model sure is cool, but it’s the story’s that keep the ships alive along after the metals gone. And as always where a universe exists in story with so much room to expand, this is the perfect spot.

The ship herself is hardly useful. A quick look around reveals a lot of critical damage. Sustaining multiple deep hull penetrations and a fully collapsed forward section, structurally, only the Beam and Fore and Aft superstructure keeps the wreck together. The gun barrels show fusing from overheating and no longer able to fire, her main engines all but burned up. I would say she was a last stand vessel who was engaged on the Port side and rolled several times over to use her Starboard guns till they couldn’t fire either. I would say not many survived.

Long may she rest, the final watch.
Cheers to our veterans, and those we never forget!
Cheers to you!
Enjoy!
