Welcome back!
If you’ve seen my Cruiser remixes before, then you know I see them as pretty role oriented ships, and thus very modifiable. Same as the Nova’s and Omegas. This is no exception.
So where would an Expeditionary Ship’s role come from. Well historically, an Expeditionary Force would be a few battalions of a supporting Countries Military to foreign aid. We’ve seen this thru out history, mainly British history. The last big historical Expeditionary Force was in WW2 with the British Army sent into France before being evacuated at Dunkirk. So here’s the thing about that event; the Military was all in and subsequently lost major assets in the German advance through France. This caused a lot of decisions to be made and a lot of rethinking as a major amount of manpower and equipment were lost. So as a people, we should all embrace mistakes, and accept learning from them. This is where that ship comes into play.
An Expeditionary Force Ship would be created to be used when necessary to support ally’s in any needed conflict without taxing its Military, subdividing the supporting Nations assets. This is a weakness that has been exploited time and time again throughout history. Divide and Conquer. So, we have 2 Cruisers, smaller and faster vessels, cut down the Port and Starboard sides with support craft housing as the mainstay of the redesign in the center. There’s upgraded anti ship defenses to bolster the defense, as this would be received by an enemy as yet another major drawback. So ya, if you want to invade someone, like let’s say, Centari raiding Narn, you might see a bunch of these show up before or after an assault.
Pretty cut and dry really. The Merit is there. I wish they made more Naval assets of this concept today, wouldn’t that be nice?
The class is called the Euryphaessa Class, Greek word meaning wide shining, I’d in this context use it as wide shining support.
Enjoy!
