Welcome back!
Here we have it, Babylon 3. Earth Forces intended design for Babylon 2. “The Beast”.
So the shows called Babylon 5; so what happened to Babylon 2? Politics… If your following along from alternate story line station to station, then I’d like to recall that Babylon 2 was a Vorlon commissioned station covertly made by humans in the Vorlons Project Avalon ( Avalon 8 ).
Truth be told, this is an alternate storyline Station, so I elected not to kill off another character. Babylon 2 was sent back to the Vorlons after discovering some discreetly shielded Vorlon tech, most likely placed during transport from the Vorlon Demarcation zone to the Neutral Episolon sector. This was found after a Cadet Training vessel’s Cadet encountered 2 Vorlon fighters in a Hyperspace training exercise. The unsettling suspicion that the Vorlons were covertly monitering the younger races activities, findings, and talk about the Shadows. This theory would fit given the Vorlons willing to have the younger Races fight their battles for them in the future. This is not taken very well by Earth Force or the others; having already complaining now endlessly over the Stations already over tightened security and overall crammed design. With the Vorlons being even more vague and now 1/4 explaining anything per only 1/2, it was a mutual easy decision for everyone to petition and politely ask the Station be taken back, with the Understanding that the Vorlons may have learned a little to much then everyone wanted them too. The enigmatic Vorlons promptly took it back. Discontinuing the Avalon Project and sending everyone home with a wiped memory of the experience. Maybe not to nice after all…
So here we are with Babylon 3. Only receiving 3 because of respect. This Station has an all together different architecture. This is the evolution of the E.F. Babylon Design’s. So yes, it’s familiar, but more agreeable among the Races with out the heightened security thru design inside. Outside though, wow… Earth Force clearly was done with the surrounding politics and the threats of pending War. So, they again, armed the heck out of it. Placing heavy Gatling style anti-ship weapons well around the aft Fusion Reactor, placing stationary yet just as movable Gatling cannnons Midship and Forward. The Station has one long centralized Rotational Mainstay. The interior is Earth like, unlike Babylon 1 / Babylon Prime. The Superstructure utilizes a central mounted spine and exoskeleton design. This is for maximum stability and to sustain heavy damage in a future possible war. Sabotage is mostly ruled out given how many lessons learned. This Station also has 4 Cargo pass thru’s, 2 dedicated for Station Operations, and 2 for Fleet Replenishment Operations. Hence the nickname with all features considered, “The Beast”. Yes, the recessed sections in the Midships Cylindrical rotation areas are dominated by defense grid batteries.
What about the Avalon’s? Well, we will just have to see. So in this model listing, you’ll find the Full Station, a Split to Print file, a scenic Fleet Replenishment model, and a typical Day’s view with a Transport with the Cutters taking over the job of customs as intended, and the lack of Defense Platforms or Traffic Control Substations. Its stream lined, and the firepower no longer justifies the expense of operating the more expensive ansilery stationing.
Per usual, there’s a long line of people to complain over the overbearing firepower, but everyone knows Math, and can see the sense in these decisions. With the Public now able to live, operate business’s and such on board again, public suspicion dwindles and curiosity and travel immediately wins back public opinion over the concept of mixing with Aliens again that B2 accidentally brought back up. VP Clark can now relax and get back to his own adgenda’s with less crazy.
This model is a crazy remix, so please, enjoy!
