Summary

This model embraces Newtonian Physics boundaries mixed with the extremes of a roaring City of the extremes conceptually. This is Project Atlantis Colony. A Stationary Station where there is no Earth Force presence. This Model breaks every rule in the B5 Human law book if you will at the time. This is a rotational station for artificial gravity. Yes its most fascinating challenge designing this model was the attempt to design a model of a city in space embracing the extremes. The Greatest view this model has are opposite from the conventions or typical 3D models. All the juicy detail work is on the inside. The Babylon Project was beautiful to the eye, and yes, it’s a Diplomatic station. This isn’t. It’s a modular city for the Public by the Public.

The inside is not hollow. It’s a city on the inside, the greatest details are on the inside. Where the Babylon Stations had wide open areas, this has space meeting Sky Scrapers. Imagine personal transport craft moving magnetically thru spinning highways in between intersections at the Struts that Suspend the Outward City from the center. Design wise, it also had to make sense, so in its own right, this is the madness of rush hour in NYC.

So, its project name is Atlantis. An obvious choice for this one. Atlantis is a mythological city of extreme cutting edge technology rumored to be so great in magnitude, it ascended to the stars. There couldn’t be a better suited name. So, with the dealt with, let’s get on with the story.

-Note: The Atlantis Project, isn't intended to be just one Station. Its as many as needed for each community and mixing communities. Thats why it would need to be manufactured in a modular fashion, oops, that means we just entered slicing and remixing territory...

As people, we form communities. Some communities prefer to mix, and some choose to stay traditional. Countries have different laws, different ideals, different religions. This Atlantis Project allows for those communities to grow into space from Earth, as different and diverse from one another as we all are with each other. That’s the mission. Peace and freedom of choice with no Global tether. This project acknowledges that maybe to many different menu items on the menu can be tough for any kitchen to keep up with. So the solution would be to have different restaurants if you will. So while embracing the diversity of its people, it also gives our people the breathing room needed to ascend in our own ways, in our own communities unobstructed into the stars. Personally, I think that ideal presented to you as a reader and a sci-fi person, could make sense or be a solution to the modern day. So let's imagine for a second, moving forward in time, with a road map of legend of the past to guide us.

The city Infrastructure or Architecture, yepp, eventually Engineers and Architects will be in the same room all infighting each other because of something like this. Just think for a second, Engineering can be pretty down right brutal and cut throat sometimes, and keeping it all professional and logically together while multitasking theoretical physics, and design intent is pretty taxing on the mind. Now we’re throwing in the Art embracing, starry eyed idealist and self motivated Architects into the same room! Yes yes, it’s a brisk walk down a long road, but a side note worth mentioning. Anyway, all City functionality, power, essentials, you name it, down the center. 0 G in the middle makes workers happier. So that makes sense, transportation of the goods, from weightless to priceless going thru the struts to the outer areas. Yes, this is a single axis, uni-directional stationary Station. Do you like Scrabble? I do. Note, the City Skyscrapers, are also the struts. Why, BECAUSE ARCHITECTS DONT ALWAYS GET WHAT THEY WANT! LOL sorry. It’s a compromise, there that sounds better.

If your offended, sorry, I’ll help you get to the ticket booth to another Atlantis Station where you won't have to see or hear that kind of talk… :P (Get it? ..... YES! now that's mixing the power of language with Design intent!)

The sizing of the sections matter because of rotational gravity. Here’s another reason for the different variances, age. The older we get, the harder on our bodies the gravity becomes. Here in this design, you just move up or down a couple levels to change the physical impact from your environment. You can go further toward the outside of the Axis for exercise, and then go down more centralized, to literally LITERALLY take the weight off. And, enjoy the view of all the people from your window bustling around outside and Inside at the time. Or go for a nice charter craft trip around Saturn's rings! (Great, now I'll have to model up space cars and travel busses! ####!) ANYWAY... inside the station traffic would move, like a choreographed school of fish through the internal parts of the station. This could be achieved by using the same technology as the Mono Rail trains do with utilizing magnetic polarity as a source of travel propulsion. Its already metal, and generating a somewhat magnetic field you'd be in.

Towards the back, and some little areas in the front, there’s large and smal areas cut out. 2 reasons, 1 so you the modeler, can see into the model and see this story in plastic, and 2 the story line can provide restaurants and entertainment in these areas with an always changing view. This is a call out to the Rotating Restaurant that used to operate in my home City of Rochester NY famous for its every changing view of the horizon while you ate and enjoyed the scenic views from on top of a Skyscraper. So yes, that back area is just that. I'll leave you to create the rest of the story I started here for you to invision and imagine.

I strongly recommend printing large for this one, and you’ll need to use a z hop setting most definitely. This model requires some time in your print settings to dial in just right.

This ideal is weightless to priceless, not warheads on foreheads, like the other Babylon Models I've remixed.

This is a remix, blah blah blah, Thank you.
Enjoy!
