Summary

This is a selector that I made for my automatic transmission (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1094616).

It has an interlock mechanism and manual mode, so works like a real one. I made this model because I plan to print my automatic transmission and put solenoids controlled by Arduino, so I needed a way to select between modes, and even select each gear manually.

Why? Well, I have an engine model that runs like a real one and I want to put the automatic transmission and all that to simulate a car running on the road.

I already have a working sketch (program) for Arduino to control the solenoids on the automatic transmission, and I have the engine model working, so now all I need is a 3D printer to print all the transmission, selector, differential, etc. The wheels are going to be connected to a big flywheel to simulate the momentum of a moving car.

This project is not for everybody, but I wanted to share it anyway.

You are going to need 3mm rods, some springs and a 5mm steel ball (example: from a ball bearing).

There are holders to put a cover strip for the Y axis, but since is so thing would not be practical to print that part, so you most make it yourself from maybe paperboard or whatever you want. You can make the cover strip for the X axis too.

If you have any question, let me know.
