I tried to make a very simple AutoLevel Senor. You can print it without support and you just need to print 2 parts.
You also need a rod, an optical sensor, a servo and that’s it. In my case the rod is a standard carbon fiber rod (2,9 mm diameter) As you need to drill the rod guidance anyway you can adopt to the hole size of your rod. But it should be around 3mm to fit the probe.
Once everything fits just glue the probe against the rod. Be careful, you really just need very little glue. I recommmend that you apply it with a toothpick for better control.
Depending on the type of PLA/ABS you use, you might need to paint the probe with e.g. a black Edding. This makes sure no light gets through it.
In my setup it achieves a repeatable accuracy of minimum 0,02 mm. This is enough to get great auto level measures. Have fun with it!
Remark: I was inspired by: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:490024. Great Design!
