Summary

Here is my remixed version of the astrolabicon puzzle. I've also designed a stand for it here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3268756

I really liked this model, and printed a few but none of them out there just nailed it for me. The source version was too small for standard 14mm marbles, and the original I found on another site had too small mags for me and the orientation was not want I wanted.

As a result, my design incorporates the following:

1) It is designed to utilze 12 (6 per hemisphere) 3mm x 8mm mags and they will sit flush to the surface when installed (others I tried extruded up beyond the opening). The larger magnets give a better snappy feeling and ensure proper puzzle alignment. Here is an example of the size & type of magnets required: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MTCF3SB/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2) I positioned my magnets to be aliged center to the marble channels and not the arms for optimal channel alingment during puzzle use.

3) My design is perfect size to support 14mm glass marbles. It requres 6 marbles in 4 variying colors (or other patterns if you prefer). If you purchase the same set as I used, you will have enough to make two puzzles - sort of. One puzzle can have 4 colors of 6 marbles each, and the other can have 2 colors of 6 marbles and 4 other colors of 3 marbles (I used alternating patters on the two ends). Here is what I purchased and what is used in my puzzle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016SS7TWY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4) I printed at 10% infill which you may think makes for a light model, which it does. However, with the marbles installed, the print is quite stout and has a nice feel. If you do want heavier, there is no issue printing with higher infill. I will say that the puzzle is loud with all the marbles clanking and the mags snapping, but I enjoy the tactile element of it quite a lot. Just can't play with it in bed while my wife is trying to sleep.
