Summary

When the wind blew our last ash tray off of the patio table and broke it, I started looking for something to replace it. I searched online for an ash tray of the type I've used in hotels, large enough that I can flick my ash without fear of missing, but I couldn't find a practical model. Some of the elements I found were nice, but fancy faces and intricate designs would make the thing hard to keep clean. After gathering ideas, I sat down to build.

This ash tray features a wide base, four rests that will hold everything from extra thin cigarettes to slim cigars, and a snuffer in the center that extinguishes the cherry before it can melt the plastic. The inset under the snuffer allows trays to be stacked easily.

You will want support in the center unless you're printer does well with bridging. It doesn't seem to help putting supports under the rests.

Get fancy and add a splash of color! I used transparent PETG and an infill of 15% for the walls - you can play with infill patterns and come up with more designs. You'll want to set up modifier zones as I have pictured, so the most critical parts are printed solid.

I look forward to seeing your prints!
