The file 'Aquarium Filter W/ Threaded Cover, Two Sizes 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 1.2MB.
Hello, this is my first upload to Thingiverse. I remixed a container done by Chris_Wentworth to use as an air driven filter for my aquariums, including a small and large size. For each size you can feed a standard 5/16" air line tube through the port and attach a small air stone inside the base. (Could also work without the air stone!)
I bought ceramic media to fill in the center of the filter, and cut out a circular piece of sponge media to go over that. I've been running 5 of these filters for the last two months and they seem to be working great, or as good as the ones I had been buying from Petco. (Please note that I am not an engineer or professional fishkeeper.) My basic understanding of how this design should work is that as air bubbles rise through the ceramic media and sponge, water is forced down through the filter and all the beneficial bacteria living inside it.
You will need to print at 100% infill for the filter to sink. I use PLA and from what I can tell through Google searches the plastic is not seriously toxic to the aquarium. Though I do plan on replacing mine every few months.
Hope you enjoy the model!
