Heads up! This is for the old-style filament spools. They changed them.

An environmentally responsible way to make use of your used filament spools. This is not my original idea as there are plenty of these already shared, but this one is unique in that it fits the Amazon Basics and Overture filament spools (and maybe others).

No drilling or hardware is required. The boxes click in to the existing holes on the spool. 3 boxes per spool.

To assemble, simply insert both Connector Pegs into the top and bottom of the box, then click into the existing holes in the empty spool. You can then stack as many spools as you want using the Vertical Extender parts. When stacking, you'll want to alternate which holes you click the boxes into so that they stack without a gap.

NOTES

Print the Box at 100% scaling for a tight fit in the spool (some force required to close and open each compartment, creating a natural "locking" mechanism). Or print at 99% scaling for a loose fit (compartment will swing open with very little force, such as gravity). Make sure you adjust the scale of the other parts (connector) accordingly.

Print two Connector Pegs for each box. If it sticks out a bit too much, just sand down the inner tip a bit to give it the perfect fit. You can also adjust the fit by printing it at 99% or 101% scale.

The Vertical Extender allows you to stack spools. Print ONE bottom, ONE top, ONE handle and as many extensions as spools you want to stack. Screw it all together as shown in the attached diagram. Don't screw the handle in too tight, you could break the top part.
