This is an always-wet palette. It uses hydrostatic pressure to keep a very low level of water in the main tray, the same way that a self-feeding dog water bowl works. In my proof-of-concept, at over 24 hours exposed to the air, the palette has remained wet, and the level in the water bottle has barely gone down.
Once printed, you will need to put the pad into the tray, and get it wet. Then put the water bottle in the holder. The wicking action created by evaporation will draw more water into the pad. Note: you will need to use a water bottle; just putting water into the reservoir won't work, as it isn't a closed system.
UPDATE (05/22/2024): edited the lid design; cutout added so it will nest properly against the reservoir.
