Summary

65,000 downloads so far and now “Alien: Romulus” is coming to theaters in August. I would bet that the number of downloads will increase significantly by then. It would be really nice if the number of donors for my work increased a little, because so far only 4 (!!) people have shown their gratitude. Maybe you'll be next?!

Thank you very much!

Here we go, this is my second try making an Alien Xenomorph and this time for me it works out damn good ... I hope you will like it as much as I do ... ;o)

Some informations ... I made some pictures to follow the progress of this thing a bit.

The base for all is as before a fanart model, made for XNALara, that can be found online.

After the posing process in XNA Posing Studio, where I tried to find a dynamic but centered position, I had to do a bunch of different works to make this little fella printable.

One step was to get the model solid and in one piece. Then smoothing the rough and jagged surface by turning the triangles to quads and then rise their count. I used Meshmixer to do some small corrections and export to STL with a much higher triangle and detail densitiy then before.

After some slicing tests I decided to do some more modifications direct at the model, because the detailing was to high and 'not safe' for printing.
So for example I closed the mouth-hole and gave more material to thiner parts like the thorns/spurs and fingers.

To stress and test this modifications I made a first print at 80% in PLA and had some (self-made) hassle with the supports, which cause to pause the print several times. F.ex. my printer just wiped away the complete left-hand-support what ended in a creepy finger-mush (repaired in post) and second there was no full support for the right leg, because I told my slicer only to generate support starting from the printbed.

In addition there were some other issues with the surface so I decided to give the Xenormorph another ride through Meshmixer, finally reduced the triangles by 50% and the result is now here for you to download.

I really spend many hours in this cutie and literally moved every of the (formerly) 5 million polygons several times. So if you like this contribution it would be kind to give me at least a feedback in any way you like (thump, picture of your Make, ...) but you may also feel free to spend me a 'beer' ;o)

In other words: Please stay fair! Follow the license and don't sell this thing without my permission and please use the Thing-Tag if you display it in public. Thanks and have fun!

Update 2020.08.22

Wow. Almost 40,000 downloads. Seems like my Xenomorph has a few fans around the world. It's sad that I haven't even received a cent as recognition, but that seems to be the spirit of these times.

Update 2023.11.13

Over 62K downloads. Apparently it continues to be very popular. Unfortunately, so far only 2 people have been willing to give me a small "thank you" for my work. Unfortunately, times are not getting better.
