Summary

With this adapter it is possible to rotate the reel arm of the Ender-3 V3 KE and SE by 90°. As a result, the center of gravity of the filament reel is no longer outside but above the gantry bridge so that the latter is no longer twisted. This reduces the wobbling of the gantry, especially in combination with the gantry support https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6516352. The wobbling reduction of this combination was measured at the top of the gantry leg and is reported in this measurement report.

The resulting design has the following properties:

  • Compact.
  • The adapter can be used without modifying or drilling the gantry.
  • The original attachment points are used.
  • The attachment of the original metal reel arm is placed between the original mounting screws, so that no moment forces are created.
    For the KE:
  • The runout sensor is located at exactly the original position.
  • For unwinding the filament, the reel is more favorable compared to the runout sensor.

The reel arm can be used as with the original but I rotated the reel arm frame 180° and of course I had to mount the plastic arm the other way around. This ensures a better (concentric) position of the reel relative to the runout sensor. To prevent the reel from rubbing then against the metal frame, you will also find an STL of a spacer that must be clicked onto the reel shaft.
