Since 60 meter bulk Super 8 film for self loading S8 cartridges is sold on cores, I had the demand for a split reel that takes the film including its core between two detachable halves.
That makes self loading the cartridges in the darkroom or dark tent much easier, because the film can not slip from the core and so you don't risk to produce spaghetti. The split reel fits on every common S8 viewer/editor.
Since there's not much space in the middle of the core to contain 2 threads and the axis of a S8 viewers' winding arm, the walls and threads are thin. I recommend printing this in PETG or ABS.
I provide two versions of the upper half - one with a text label and one without. If you want your split reel with text, simply make a filament change for layer 2 and another change back to the original color on layer three.
UPDATE: I also added a version with a notch for people who also want to rewind with the split reel.
UPDATE 2: I also added a 20cm version. Print it with 3 bottom & 3 top layers and a 30-50% infill of your choice.
