I am a volunteer firefighter in my community. I have always had a hard time with putting my radio somewhere when I drove. Putting it in the drink holder would remove the ability for me or my passenger to bring a drink with them. Putting the radio into the 4WD shifter boot would lead to the radio tipping over and bugging the passenger. This item allows me to use the space from the 4WD knob and becomes a place to hold the radio.
The holder is setup for an APX4000 portable radio. The built-in clip on the battery clips into a notch on the back of the radio holder. It solidly holds the radio in place. I tested that by holding the radio upside down in the holder and shaking it.
The cup-shaped part that goes over the shift knob is a bit larger that the knob itself. I used a rubber band around the knob to create a tight grip between the knob and the cup.
On the bottom of the radio mount is a recessed circular hole to accept the backside of the cup. I used Gorilla Glue Super Glue to attach the two together. So far, it is holding up to the vibration of the stick and the Alabama, USA heat in my dark 4Runner.
