Summary

This is a 4 way hat switch (with optional push) I drew up in Solidworks to use in the 3D printed F-16 grip which I recently designed and published. I based this design off huzarski's hat switch which I but re-drew all the parts in Solidworks and made some adjustments to make it easier to print and more fitted to my purpose.

This hat switch has 4 directions, as well as an optional push. It uses 4 (or 5 if you want the push button function) 4.3x6x6 mm tact switches. It currently also uses 2 small screws (holes are 1.8 mm dia.) for mounting the switch on the back face of a mounting plate up to ~2 mm thick (though this can be increased fairly easily).

No supports are required for any of the main pieces (but they are required for the hats). To assemble you need to snip two of the prongs off the tact switch and bend the other two so that they slip through the holes for them in the base. The stem can take some fiddling to slide it between the switches but it should fit without any modification. The cap fits over the stem and is held down by the mounting face, which is held by the screws. After the switch is mounted, you can put the hat on; it should press securely onto the stem. It is possible you may wish to modify either the stem or the hat to adjust for your printer's tolerance. Additionally, the hats from huzarski's design should work with this model, and vice versa.
