Summary

This design is part of my Plant Grow Tent Project:

I designed this cap to simplify my entry into the world of cloning. This is a work in progress.

  • The idea is that the cap offers good but soft fixation of the plant shoot.
  • The second function is to cover the water completely to reduce evaporation.
  • Lastly, it enables one to lift the plant to refill the water once in a while.
  • This design is not meant for large-scale cloning, just for two or three plants, for fun, and trying out new things with your kids.
  • Of course, you do not need to use water; you can use your favorite grow medium.
  • Maybe you could help me out by posting a comment about what works best for you.

  • If you need caps with different diameters, just let me know, and I will add them.

Update: 2024-07-02 - Key Learnings

  • The bigger the plant, the better.
  • The bigger the bottle, the better.
  • The smaller the neck of the bottle, the better.
  • Use bottles that are dark to reduce the amount of light exposure to the roots.
  • Install the sponge in a way that you can easily add water with a lab wash bottle (plastic laboratory squeeze bottle).
  • The benefit of this design is reduced vaporization, and with reduced air exchange, the water stays good for longer.
  • Distilled water or rainwater makes no difference.
  • Do not damage the skin of the plant except where you need to break it loose or cut it off the mother plant.
  • If the plant is not healthy, too small, or not a complete shoot, then nothing may happen.

Happy Cloning!
