Summary

I admit this kinda looks like a Lightning connector... It can be made reversible easily too. i might do that later.

I needed an external connector for an Arduino project, and found out that seemingly nobody attempted to make a small connector in Thingiverse. This particular one is for a DS18B20, a digital temp sensor that communicates via One Wire Interface (i.e. VCC, ground, and a data wire). Spoiler: the connector works pretty damn well with it!

PRINTING

Dimension-wise, they are tiny. The female connector hole is 0.2mm bigger in both directions, beside this I set the horizontal expansion setting to -0.05 mm on Cura (only for the female), and it fits perfectly on the first try. You might have to play around with horizontal expansion or scale until you get it working, i guess it depends on how much you know your own printer

I printed it with a 0.4 nozzle. absolutely no finesse. Smaller nozzles will surely yield better results but this is good enough for it to work. print all the pieces at once or at least print many of them, so that they have enough time to cool. or blast the layer fan at it idk

For the MALE, I used a paper clip, 0.75mm diameter. you can use any solid wire i guess.
Bend the tip 90º and then cut it almost flush, leaving less than a mm. that will secure it to the connector body, but it shouldn't pass through it entirely. solder the wires to the paper clip pieces before assembling of course...

The FEMALE connector is a little more complicated, as the contacts have to be flexible. My approach worked perfectly; I used PSU wires (20AWG, many strands of copper) and made them go through the connector, then soldered the tip just to keep the strands together and bent them over through the recesses in the connector. A little bit of cyanoacrylate glue to keep them from moving, and it's done.

And the lid is to hide the paper clip-wire connections and to keep eevrything sturdier. also glue it with whatever you see fit, i used cyanoacrylate
