Summary

Experiencing layer shift on a Dremel 3D45 printer? While it could be the slide rails, it could be the belts, it could be the motor, I found that it could also be the build plate shifting whiled secured onto the build platform due the the lack of rigidity in the print bed retaining system. Based on the 3D45's design, the two front build platform clips that secure the build plate have to be flexible enough to also allow users to remove and install the build plate.

As a result, the clips lack sufficient holding power to keep the build plate from shifting. With the build plate installed and clipped in, it can actually be slid fore and aft by hand without much effort. During printing activities, with the print head making rapid direction changes, vibrations propagate throughout the entire printer, causing the print bed to shift within it's flexible retaining system and therefore the printed layers shift. Consider this a design flaw.

After installing this "lock" on both front build platform clips, the repeated layer shift issue I experienced stopped. If you're experiencing layer shift, I recommend installing these clips before performing any disassembly and repair attempts. While there could be other issues, it could simply be your build plate shifting.
