THIS IS A REMIX AND AN UPGRADE TO THE ORIGINAL JET ENGINE: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1327093 with the forward covers and ducting bits from: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4193487

This project implements many mechanical modifications to the original jet engine model paired with an Arduino and other electronics in the base to allow the user to get the main fan blade spinning up to 1700rpm! With a 12V DC motor and L298N motor driver, the rotary encoder on the front is used to control the speed from 60rpm to a user-set (and non-volatile) maximum speed. A 4-line LCD screen displays the current estimated fan blade speed, motor speed, and real-time measured voltage across the motor terminals. This project can be a great introduction into electronics if you are looking for a challenge, or a fairly comfortable build for the more experienced hobbyist.

Access the most recent electronics schematic, PCB Gerber files, Arduino code, and Bill of Materials for the project in the GitHub repository:

The V3 Soldering and Electronics Assembly video can be found on YouTube:

  • Video coming soon - content recorded, just producing the sequence and commentary. The schematic should be detailed enough for assembly for eager-beavers

The Electronics Bay assembly video can be found on YouTube. V2 and V3 have similar process and layout.

The V2 Main Fan Assembly video is also found on YouTube, depicting how all the components are assembled:

Pictures of required mechanical and electronics contents shown in kits on this post and on GitHub:

Estimated cost of project based on Bill of Materials on GitHub (if you didn't have any of the required parts on hand):

  • ~$350 CAD

V3 Complete, Electronics, and Mechanical kits available to order, international shipping available directly from myself, in Canada. Costs below do not include shipping (usually ~$30 CAD) or applicable taxes/customs/duties (country dependent). Quote/invoice and receipt available upon request. Message to inquire

  • $225 CAD complete kit with all electronics and mechanical hardware, excluding printed parts.
  • $160 CAD electronics kit with all required electronics, ready-to-solder. (5 kit sold)
  • $75 CAD mechanical kit with all required bearings, fasteners, and glue.
