These parts are for use with a length of schedule 40 3" PVC (the most common). The user must drill 1" diameter holes in the pipe in order to fit the shrouds. Unlike the 2"PVC parts, this one does not need to have the hole filed to a funky shape, good old round holes work well. I use a forstner bit to drill the holes, and I glue the shrouds in with modeling glue. The top plug has a hole to run a wire for hanging. The bottom plug keeps the bird seed from draining out, and it slides in from below; it must be held in place with either glue or screws. Finally, add some screws below each shroud for the birds to roost on while eating.
