Summary

Work in Progress

I will build a 3d FDM printer myself in the next months and want to try something else for the X axis carriage, also I wanted to use the E3D V6 holder for the Anet A8 by TNS (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2099577) to fit onto the slide, therefor I took the measurments of the screw hole distances from the original A8 slide.
I designed all screw-holes and the nut inserts to fit the standard M3 bolts and nuts.
The mounts for the bearings and the bearing sleve are made to fit the 608 bearings.

After this thing is completed, I'll setup a test rig with a Stepper driver and a RAMPS board and will do a test where the slide will be running 24/7 until a set travel distance is reached (I'm thinking of a distance like 100km of travel or so) and afterwards I'll look at the wear an the rollers and the extrusion (perhaps I'll do one test with a aluminium extrusion and one with a printed one for comparison)

Things todo:

  • Add a 2020 Mounting bracket so that you can use the slide as a carriage for a 2020 Extrusion
  • Add a Nema 17 holder to fit a stepper if you wont use CoreXY

Good Thing noticed: It'll fit an 2040 Extrusion as well.

Pre-Build requirements (I designed this thing to use M3 hex cap screws):

Hardware:

  • 2*M3x20 Screws (6 if using beltholder for mounting the belt holder in the links below) (2 upper bearing mounts)
  • 1*M3x12 Screw (lower bearing mount)
  • 10*M3x10 screws (for mounting the extruder carriage, varies from what you need)
  • 3*608zz or 608rs bearings (bought them cheap from china in packs of 10, lookup a local reseller, they might sell them cheaper)

Printed Parts:

  • 1*Slider_Base.Stl
  • 1*Slider.Stl (print more if you modify your existing printer, just in case you break some)
  • 3*Bearingholder.Stl Rotate by 180°(print more if you modify your existing printer, just in case you break some)
  • OR 1 Bearingholder.Stl and 1 Bearing_holder_for_belt.Stl
  • 3*608Sleve.Stl (print more, you will need them in the future as they wear down, print them in nylon if you can)

Tools:

  • Pair of pliers (it might be possible to hold down the bearing holders while screwing the screw into them)
  • M3 hex wrench
  • lightweight hammer for inserting the bearing holders into the bearings (designed the OD of the holders to be just 8mm, so the fit will be defined by the tolerance of your printer, when they don't fit, print them with a lower or higher scale like 99-101% in the X and Y direction)

Updates:
02.10.17:

  • Added stronger slider base for less flex on the mount of the single bearing

28.06.17:

  • added one more hole to the belt attachement so that you can mount the belt attachement upside down

27.06.17:

  • Added belt attachement bearing holder
  • Added links to hings I use above
  • Removed WIP status

26.06.17:

  • Removed the nut insert for the adjsutment slide because I had a hard time to fit it so that a M3x12 screw would reach the nut, the screw will now screw into the plastik so be carefull!
  • More size adjustments like increasing the distance between the 2 longholes by 2 mm
  • Many little adjustments and prototyping
  • Added quick note/copmparison between moving weight in a CoreXY printer (see below)

23.06.17:

  • Enlarged spacing between longholes
  • Enlarged the thicknes of the base plate to fit standard m3 bolt sizes
  • Enlarged depthness of the nut holders
  • Enlarge all screwholes so the screws will only screw into the nut, not the plastik (sometimes they still screw into the plastik but not too tightly anymore, could depend on printer)
  • Turned around the hole pattern so it isn't upside down

21.06.17:

  • Highered the thicknes of the plate for nut inserts on both sides and less flex,
  • enlarged the longholes and modified them to fit an m3 nut,
  • redesigned the bearing holders. added 2 nut inserts and screwholes so that you can use the lower ones when using 2040 or use the upper ones when using 2020 extrusion
