This bulk head is internally threaded to fit a 1.5" PVC Fitting and fits through a 2.5" hole. This was drawn as part of a bio filter set along with a screen, Small bulkhead for pump input, motor mounting bracket and a plug. I recommend using a neoprene sheet (http://www.amazon.com/Neoprene-Sheet-Gasket-Black-Thick/dp/B0075ZMFME/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1426365126&sr=8-8&keywords=neoprene+rubber+sheet) as the gasket material.
