This is a thumbscrew that will fit 1/4" nuts or bolts as a "press-fit" (it will be stiff pressing on but should not fall off easily). It allows easy tightening/loosening by hand.
This is ideal for making DIY camera tripod mounts, replacing lost tripod mounting screws with hardware-store drop-ins, or holding custom accessories to a threaded camera shoe adapter.
It is narrow enough to clear the pop-up flash on Nikon DSLR cameras, as seen with the example pictured on my D7100. I use it to attach a custom "U" shaped riser bracket so the microphone can clear the pop-up flash, allowing rapid swapping to use the flash (for still shots) without removing the microphone (for video).
