Our garden birds flick the seed from side to side and spill half of it all over the ground where it starts to grow!. (They seem to be searching for the extra tasty bits). Also, when the seed gets wet, the birds get fussy and don’t eat it.
This feeder has 3 innovative design features that help with these problems.

  1. There is a low inner wall which stops the birds flicking the seed over the edge of the feeder. It catches the seed before it is flicked over the edge and remains within the outer walls. This saves wasting a lot of seed, . . . but annoys the pigeons who seem to prefer ground feeding.
  2. The seed when it is delivered from the bottle does not fall to the base of the bird tray but is raised up 10mm so that it doesn’t rest in any water that may be on the floor of the feeder.
  3. Rain tends to run down the sides of the bottle and into the feeder tray. The canopy which fits over the bottle neck deflects it to the outer area where it does less damage. The canopy also deflects rain that would otherwise fall into the inner ring.
It is not necessary to print the canopy as the feeder will work adequately without it, albeit the seed getting wet.
